Week 14

We had the chance to do some service this week for the members. One day we shoveled and wheel barrowed about a yard of rock and some dirt from the front yard to the backyard of a member. That only took us about 45 minutes and I was impressed with how fast it went. It was great to do some good old fashioned manual labor again like I am used to. Even better that it requires little talking and just working hard. The other was painting a wall of a less active older lady we found while doing contacting. It was an interesting experience, and far from the best paint job I've done because we only had one very old paintbrush, but she still appreciated the help. Sometimes with the older people, or those who can't understand or function very well, all we can do is try to show the love of Christ.

We also had a ward activity this week on Friday so we spent a lot of time inviting tons of people to it. We actually had over 10 less actives or investigators show up! That made me super happy and we did our best to make sure they had a good time and felt comfortable. the activity included a BBQ of sorts, some games outside, and karaoke. My companion and I even participated in singing a little bit and the members loved it. We're trying hard to work with them and gain their trust and friendship.

My companion and I are getting along great and we're doing our best to be obedient and follow the Spirit. We're searching for people to teach and teaching those we have.

I love the scriptures and specifically the Book of Mormon. I'm in the book of Alma right now and Iove how simple it is and how clearly it explains things. When Alma is teaching his sons, we can see how much he loves his sons and wants the best for them. So what does he do? He shares the gospel. That's how we show our love, by sharing. His final words to them are to Be sober. I'm pondering on what exactly he means by that. Alma 29 is another excellent chapter. The scriptures are full of good examples for us, the best being Christ.

For Pday today we played soccer with a group of missionaries, then cooked sausages and hamburgers together and ate it. It was fun to hang out with other missionaries and to have a tasty meal!  The card game BANG is very popular here among the missionaries.

I hope everyone is doing super well. Lots of love,

Elder Alex Brighton
