Week 9

We had an interesting experience this week while contacting. We knocked on a door and a young women about our age opened it. We introduced oursleves but she just scowled and didn't say a word. We didn't really know what to do, but we always try to ask for references from everyone and so we did. She just lifted her arm straight up and pointed across the street. So we thanked her and went to contact that house. We knocked one door and turned around and she was shaking her head and pointing to the other door. So we knocked on that one and a man opened it and told us to come back  on Sunday . So yesterday we stopped by, not neccessarily expecting much, and he let us in! I need to work on my Faith. We taught a lesson to him, his wife, and aunt who lived there too. They were very attentive and asked questions. We left them with a Book of Mormon and a challenge to read a chapter and set an appointment for the following  Sunday ! What an interesting and cool experienc

Week 8

A short letter this week. Things are going well here. Very hot during the day, but nice and cool at night. Our investigator is preparing for her baptism  this Saturday . I hope everything goes well for her! She has progressed so far and hopefully will reap the blessings with the next step being her baptism. We took a trip to an area with lots of water and islands for P-day today with the district. The land here is super beautiful and I´m grateful for the chance we had to do some exploring. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a missionary and share the glorious message of the Gospel!

Week 7

I have arrived in my first Sector of the mission in Estanque. My zone is Valdivia, the second most Northern of the mission. The land here is beautiful and super green- the middle of summer. Tons of Flowers and especially roses. We walk everywhere so there is lots of time to enjoy the scenery. There are also a very large variety of stray dogs, big and small, wandering around everywhere. My companion is Elder Azereda from Brasil. He has 9 months here and speaks perfect Spanish as far as I can tell and I will assume perfect Portuguese.... His English is super great too but I haven´t heard it a bunch. We always talk in Spanish, and that means me asking him to repeat over and over and slower, but I'm learning quickly. I introduced myself in Church  on Sunday  without any problem. I lack so much but with time it´ll happen. My first day we had an appointment with Coni (Costanza) who has been an investigator for a while. She committed to being baptized that day and her fecha is the

Dear Family of Elder Brighton We are pleased to inform that your son has arrived safe and sound and smiling to the Chile Osorno Mission.  It was a pleasure for us to greet him upon his arrival and feel his desire to serve.  Enclosed is a picture that we took with him shortly after his arrival.  He participated in a short orientation regarding mission procedures, customs of the country, etc.   Elder  Brighton has been assigned to   work in the city of Valdivia  with  Elder  Azervedo as  his  companion.   Your son's address during his time in the mission will be:                                                   Elder   Alex Brighton                                        Chile Osorno Misión                                        Casilla 7-0   Region X                                         Osorno, Chile We feel an overwhelming love for all of our missionaries and are truly happy to have the opportunity to work with Elder Brighton.  We appreciate

Week 5

Things here in the MTC are going well. Only a week left, then I'll be sent to my mission in Osorno. I'll receive travel plans on Monday  and leave on Tuesday  by airplane I believe. Nothing much new to report, but I do like 2 Corinthians  5:17  Therefore if any man  be   in Christ ,  he is  a  new  creature:  old  things are  passed  away; behold, all things are become  new . Our district went to a park for exercise hour on New Year's day and we ate a bag of Doritos and did our best to celebrate a new year. I hope every one can make this a great one! Set goals and work hard to achieve them. The human body, when powered by the brain is incredible. The mental capacity we have to do anything is so strong. Keep things in perspective too. We had a very interesting, nearly frightening, devotional about perspective this Sunday. But when we remember we are Children of God and he loves us, has prepared everything for us and is ready to share, it all makes sense and we ca
