This week we visited with Oscar, Yanet, and Olga a number of times. They're a family we found a week or two ago that are going through a pretty hard time right now. We have been able to help them a  lot with their move and taught them a lot this week too. They really liked the plan of salvation and said they would be baptized if God told them to do it. Good thing God wants them to be baptized in His church and He answers sincere prayer!!

We also had a couple of lessons were we struggled to explain the authority of God in a way that allows people to understand. God gives His power to men by the laying on of hands, as Jesus did with his 12 apostles. This power was lost when the people rejected them and killed the Apostles. But, God wants us to have His truth. So, he called a prophet once again as He always has. This prophet was Joseph Smith, and he was given the Priesthood by Peter, James, and John by the laying on of hands. Thus, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church on the Earth that has the power to act in the name of God. THAT is the importance of Baptism in THIS church. I know that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet because I have read the Book of Mormon and prayed, asking God if it is true. IT IS! That is why I am a missionary in Chile! Because a prophet who has this power has called me to serve here. It's an incredible opportunity.

Mariela has her baptism date set for this Friday. She needs help and faith. She can do it, but needs to believe she can. She is struggling with her addiction to smoking. But through Jesus' Atonement, we can overcome all things. I know that is true.

I am doing well here, staying very busy and that is one of the biggest blessings you can receive as a missionary. We are headed to Chiloé this evening for the Zone Conference tomorrow. I'm excited to get to see that part of this beautiful country.

This past week things returned almost to normal in our work in the sector. We really were able to take advantage of the extra hour in the evenings. It's a valuable time. We also had our Book of Mormon activity and it went well. Luciano came and shared his testimony of the Book of Mormon. It was special and awesome.  We taught the papa of a member here who is 17 and it was really great. His name is Jorge and we hope to see him progress well.  This week I leave Chile and return home to Texas. I will miss all of what the mission has been. But it has prepared me for what comes next: endure to the end! I am excited for the adventures ahead. The experiences I have had here, and the people I have met have changed who I am and I am very grateful for everything I have accomplished here. This week started off well on Monday night. We found an antiguo we wanted to go by in the area book and we knocked and talked to the lady who came out. She's a member turns out, and her husband is not. He has had many previous interactions with missionaries but never acted much before. Well, a minute or two after talking to her outside, he pulls up- home early from work (a very nice "coincidence"). I asked if we could go inside to meet them better and they said yes. We talked and got to know them for a bit, and the shared lesson 1. It was an incredible lesson and we even invited him to be baptized if he received an answer. He said he would! The catch was that later we asked him if he would pray to receive an answer and he responded that he would if he felt like it. He was unwilling to act to receive the answer. Week 40

The month of August has passed and with it I hope the cold and rain too! That is a hope in vain, but we did have some beautiful days this week and the sun is out now. Spring is coming and lots of trees are budding out in flowers. I might have to bust out my short sleeve shirts for when I shed my jacket in the afternoons. We had a lot of opportunities to teach our investigators and also to get to know them a little better. Gloria taught me how to make sopapillas, and Raul and Ana showed us around their home and kitchen where they make sausages to sell as their source of income. We also had the chance to offer little acts of service to Moises and various hermanas in the ward with different things. The better I get to know and love these people, the more my desires to help them grow. It is such a grand opportunity to meet and serve so many people.  I try everyday to better myself and search to do what the Lord wants me to do.
