7/8/19

It has been a pretty crazy couple of weeks for us. I can´t possibly include everything we did but I´ll share our schedule of this past week.

Friday- We met President Meek and ate breakfast with him in his home and then drove the Isoms to the airport. That was sad. I think it was Friday that that happened. It was a long time ago.

Saturday- The first meeting with the missionaries and President Meek! We had it here in the mission home with the missionaries of Osorno and Rahue.

Monday- We got up early and headed north to Valdivia (about an hour and a half of driving) for the second zone conference with the missionaries from Valdivia, Calle Calle, and Villarrica. President Meek had to make a few phone calls before the conference, and we also met with some of the Zone Leaders to talk about their zone. We had a zone conference and it was great. Every conference was great and special. He talked about something a little different in each zone according to what the Spirit guided him to do. It was great. After the conference, we met with the other Zone Leaders and then met with the Stake President in his home. It is now a man that lives in the first ward I served in. After a year, I still remembered how to get to his house! It was fun to get to see him again and be in my old sector, even just for a few minutes. From there we drove to Puerto Montt (2-3 hours) and stayed the night with the Zone Leaders of Puerto Montt. Their house basically became our home base for the week.

Tuesday- We got up early and met up with the Meeks to drive to Chiloé. I drove (like 3 hours) and we stopped to pick up the missionaries from Ancud on the way. The trip included a boat ride of half an hour. We had the conference there and it was a little smaller since there was only one small zone. In each conference, President Meek asked each missionary to stand and present themselves and explain the reason they came to the mission. So I got the chance to answer that question like 6 times and gave me lots to think about and reflect on. After the conference, we met with the Zone Leaders and Hermana Leaders and then drove to the house of the District President of Chiloé. After meeting with them and eating a small once, we drove back to Puerto Montt for the night.

Wednesday- We got up early and picked up the Meeks to go to the airport. We flew to Punta Arenas and checked out the rental car to get to the chapel for the conference. We had the conference and met with the Leaders, and then the meeting with the Stake President of Punta Arenas. We got a little lost on the way there but eventually arrived. We stayed the night with the zone leaders there.

Thursday- We got up early (noticing a theme?) and went to the hotel of the Meeks and met with the president about finalizing the cambios of the missionaries. We ate a little breakfast with him and then we headed to the airport to catch our flight. On the way, the sun started to rise over the Magellan Strait and it was an incredible sight. The most pretty sunrise I have ever seen. We stopped twice to take pictures and made it to the airport. We landed in Puerto Montt and made our way to the chapel for the conference with Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas. After the conference, we met with the leaders and then I drove the ZL of Puerto Varas home and we made our way back to Puerto Montt for the night.

Friday- We caught an early flight to Coyhaique and arrived there and took the rental van to the chapel to have the last conference. That conference was only with 12 missionaries. We met with the leaders of the zone there as well and then with the District President. After that, we had to talk with President Meek about the plan for cambios week and he took us to a restaurant to eat and talk about the things. That was such a nice meal and another great experience with him. We have spent so much time with him and his wife and I feel like I have known them for such a long time. I already love them so much, and they love all of us. We spent the night with the Coyhaique ZL.

Saturday- We got up (early) and took our airplane home. We drove from Puerto Montt to Osorno straight to lunch and then to the office to start to prepare things for the cambios. We got to home sweet home in the evening and slept well until Sunday morning!

Sunday- Church! What a great opportunity to be able to go. We had 3 people in teaching come to our ward. 1 from our sector and 2 from the hermana´s side. One was Mirta, and she very much wants to be baptized on the 16 of July! Lots of preparation to do. After church we had lunch, and then back to the office to keep preparing and then we called the mission to let them know about their cambios. I will stay another 6 weeks with Elder Zamudio!

That was a lot of info. But to finish, I wanted to share one thought.

What we focus on grows.

Be it positive or negative, we will make it grow in our lives if we focus on whatever thing.

Love you all a lot.

Elder Brighton
