week 39

This week we were able to see an example of the Spirit really working with and changing someone. Hermana Alicia, the mother of Darlin, called us out of the blue asking when we were coming again and when we showed up later that night was thrilled to see us. She offered to say the first prayer and finished in tears of happiness and gratitude. She still has a lot of progress to make to start coming back to church, but the desires are there now and they have come from the Spirit and not from us. She has started to read the Book of Mormon regularly with her daughter. Hopefully this helps her to progress and have desires to baptize soon so she can enjoy the blessings of the Holy Ghost in her life. She told us she wanted to wait until she was older to make the decision and at first I thought that was okay, but the more I have thought about it I have realized there is a reason we baptize as an 8 year old, one being to have the Holy Ghost to accompany and help us throughout all of our lives.

We found another investigator to teach named Jeitha. He is 12 and lives with his grandmother who is baptized but inactive for many years. We found them contacting but when they invited us to come in, the boy had the biggest smile on his face and it stayed there the whole lesson. He is a very smart child and knows a lot about the Bible. We've got a return appointment scheduled for Wednesday and I am excited to get to teach them again.

I also had an experience with the power of the Book of Mormon. An Evangelical Pastor invited us into the house and started to preach to us about how we were headed to Hell on the current path we were on. But also told us that what we were doing was something good. But once we were able to talk a  little we shared a little about the Book of Mormon and he accepted a copy and said he would read the chapter we left him. The environment changed drastically from the time we entered to the time we left.

Had a fun trip to Lago Ranco today! Got a little wet, but the views were worth it!

This past week things returned almost to normal in our work in the sector. We really were able to take advantage of the extra hour in the evenings. It's a valuable time. We also had our Book of Mormon activity and it went well. Luciano came and shared his testimony of the Book of Mormon. It was special and awesome.  We taught the papa of a member here who is 17 and it was really great. His name is Jorge and we hope to see him progress well.  This week I leave Chile and return home to Texas. I will miss all of what the mission has been. But it has prepared me for what comes next: endure to the end! I am excited for the adventures ahead. The experiences I have had here, and the people I have met have changed who I am and I am very grateful for everything I have accomplished here. This week started off well on Monday night. We found an antiguo we wanted to go by in the area book and we knocked and talked to the lady who came out. She's a member turns out, and her husband is not. He has had many previous interactions with missionaries but never acted much before. Well, a minute or two after talking to her outside, he pulls up- home early from work (a very nice "coincidence"). I asked if we could go inside to meet them better and they said yes. We talked and got to know them for a bit, and the shared lesson 1. It was an incredible lesson and we even invited him to be baptized if he received an answer. He said he would! The catch was that later we asked him if he would pray to receive an answer and he responded that he would if he felt like it. He was unwilling to act to receive the answer. Week 40

The month of August has passed and with it I hope the cold and rain too! That is a hope in vain, but we did have some beautiful days this week and the sun is out now. Spring is coming and lots of trees are budding out in flowers. I might have to bust out my short sleeve shirts for when I shed my jacket in the afternoons. We had a lot of opportunities to teach our investigators and also to get to know them a little better. Gloria taught me how to make sopapillas, and Raul and Ana showed us around their home and kitchen where they make sausages to sell as their source of income. We also had the chance to offer little acts of service to Moises and various hermanas in the ward with different things. The better I get to know and love these people, the more my desires to help them grow. It is such a grand opportunity to meet and serve so many people.  I try everyday to better myself and search to do what the Lord wants me to do.
