Week 53

We started off our Light the World month on Saturday, December 1 by participating in the global day of service. We traveled to Osorno and helped paint a house and some chairs of a member in a ward there. She is a professional chef and afterwards she cooked us a lunch of chicken, potatoes and a vegetable casserole. It was very tasty and well appreciated by us because we would have had to cook for ourselves after getting a late start so it worked out very well!

Being the missionaries that we are however, Saturday was not our only day of service. During the week it was raining and we were out proselyting and came across one of our investigators outside shoveling. They are building an extension on their home so had about 4 yards of dirt brought in to fill the site before pouring more concrete. The truck couldn't get in well enough because of low-hanging power lines so about half of that was dumped in the road. Streets in that part  are pretty narrow so he had to move it to make a path for trucks, cars, etc to get by. We arrived just as they were starting so we got to help! Got good and wet from the rain, but I think I would have preferred that over having to be in super sunny, warm weather like we had the rest of the week doing that. It was a decent amount of work, but felt great to get my hands on a shovel again and help out. We were able to get it done in not too long of a time and after he invited us in for an once and we shared a lesson about the Book of Mormon.

Forgot to mention I also got to cut a little grass with a weed whacker (electric and not the greatest) at the house on Saturday. Still fun though:)

Sunday evening we visited an inactive family briefly and they gave us some ice cream and sent us home with some ornaments for our very bare false Christmas tree we have in our house. Maybe I'll have to send a picture next week when we get it decorated. After them, we visited and taught a women for the first time. She is an English teacher and professional and we talked the whole time in English. It was very interesting talking in English, especially teaching in English. But I found that I said the same things in English that I say in Spanish so I hope that means my Spanish is decent enough. After the lesson, she showed us her garden and we helped her water it. That was super fun! She is growing all sorts of things, including pumpkins and said we'd have to make pumpkin pie sometime! The plants have a long ways to go before that happens but that would be so awesome. She is super nice and we established a good relationship with her.

Today we traveled and visited a very pretty place in Entre Lagos, la Salta de al Oya. A couple of waterfalls. It was a fun trip, and a great way to enjoy the quite wonderful weather we are having here recently.

Happy December!
