Week 30

Cambio calls came last night and I am leaving Estanque. I will be going to the city of Osorno, the zone of Rahue in the sector Las Vegas. Oddly enough, I will be reuniting with my first companion there: Elder Azeredo. I believe we will be white-washing the sector so that will bring it's challenges and excitements. I am excited to get to work with him again and be a slightly better, less completely-lost companion. I don't know much detail at all about the sector so I will fill y'all in next week and over my time there.

This week we had zone conference and we discussed ways that the members and missionaries can do things to work together more. We are getting a really big push to work with them more and involve them in very small ways. I need to improve the way I apply that to my mission and work.

We also had a week full of activities leading up to ward conference. Friday was the biggest, a festival of the nations. We made chocolate chip cookies and they were a huge hit. Tons of people asking for the recipe afterwards. We had a lot of investigators that came and one lady, Paola, even participated. She didn't like that Chile was left out as a country represented so she sang a few songs that are popular here as Karaoke. She's a funny lady and a good friend of the missionaries, just hasn't made a lot of progress as far as the Gospel sense goes. She did come to church on Sunday with her husband though! Her kids go almost every Sunday, but they came for Sacrament meeting this week too. That was really exciting to see.

We also started teaching a man named Marcelo. He came to church as well and it was awesome. Constansa also arrived all by herself. I have come to love the ward and investigators here and I believe there will be much success in the form of baptisms in this sector these next couple of cambios. Elder Price is staying here to train a new Elder from Utah.

This past week things returned almost to normal in our work in the sector. We really were able to take advantage of the extra hour in the evenings. It's a valuable time. We also had our Book of Mormon activity and it went well. Luciano came and shared his testimony of the Book of Mormon. It was special and awesome.  We taught the papa of a member here who is 17 and it was really great. His name is Jorge and we hope to see him progress well.  This week I leave Chile and return home to Texas. I will miss all of what the mission has been. But it has prepared me for what comes next: endure to the end! I am excited for the adventures ahead. The experiences I have had here, and the people I have met have changed who I am and I am very grateful for everything I have accomplished here. This week started off well on Monday night. We found an antiguo we wanted to go by in the area book and we knocked and talked to the lady who came out. She's a member turns out, and her husband is not. He has had many previous interactions with missionaries but never acted much before. Well, a minute or two after talking to her outside, he pulls up- home early from work (a very nice "coincidence"). I asked if we could go inside to meet them better and they said yes. We talked and got to know them for a bit, and the shared lesson 1. It was an incredible lesson and we even invited him to be baptized if he received an answer. He said he would! The catch was that later we asked him if he would pray to receive an answer and he responded that he would if he felt like it. He was unwilling to act to receive the answer. Week 40

The month of August has passed and with it I hope the cold and rain too! That is a hope in vain, but we did have some beautiful days this week and the sun is out now. Spring is coming and lots of trees are budding out in flowers. I might have to bust out my short sleeve shirts for when I shed my jacket in the afternoons. We had a lot of opportunities to teach our investigators and also to get to know them a little better. Gloria taught me how to make sopapillas, and Raul and Ana showed us around their home and kitchen where they make sausages to sell as their source of income. We also had the chance to offer little acts of service to Moises and various hermanas in the ward with different things. The better I get to know and love these people, the more my desires to help them grow. It is such a grand opportunity to meet and serve so many people.  I try everyday to better myself and search to do what the Lord wants me to do.
