Week 38

On Saturday we had the chance to help one of our investigators, Moises, load up a yard of firewood in the back of his pickup and then drive over to his daughter's to unload it. It was a small act of service, but it showed him that we are really here to help him out and want the best for him. We taught him a few weeks back about keeping the sabbath day holy and told him we would do whatever it took to help him have time to assist to the chapel on Sunday. Even though he wasn't able to go yesterday, it was apparent that our sacrifice of time to help him touched him and he continues being receptive to us.

This week I have been reading in 3rd Nephi when Christ comes to visit the people and spends 3 days teaching them. I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon and the influence it has had on my life and my mission. I know the book is true and I love to study it. I am grateful for the example Jesus Christ gave us of unselfish service and love. For His sacrifice and forgiveness. For His Atonement and gift of immortality for each one of us, and eternal life for those who seek it. For His love and patience. I am grateful for His Gospel and the opportunity I have to share it for 2 years here in Chile with the people here.

This past week things returned almost to normal in our work in the sector. We really were able to take advantage of the extra hour in the evenings. It's a valuable time. We also had our Book of Mormon activity and it went well. Luciano came and shared his testimony of the Book of Mormon. It was special and awesome.  We taught the papa of a member here who is 17 and it was really great. His name is Jorge and we hope to see him progress well.  This week I leave Chile and return home to Texas. I will miss all of what the mission has been. But it has prepared me for what comes next: endure to the end! I am excited for the adventures ahead. This week started off well on Monday night. We found an antiguo we wanted to go by in the area book and we knocked and talked to the lady who came out. She's a member turns out, and her husband is not. He has had many previous interactions with missionaries but never acted much before. Well, a minute or two after talking to her outside, he pulls up- home early from work (a very nice "coincidence"). I asked if we could go inside to meet them better and they said yes. We talked and got to know them for a bit, and the shared lesson 1. It was an incredible lesson and we even invited him to be baptized if he received an answer. He said he would! The catch was that later we asked him if he would pray to receive an answer and he responded that he would if he felt like it. He was unwilling to act to receive the answer. Week 40

The month of August has passed and with it I hope the cold and rain too! That is a hope in vain, but we did have some beautiful days this week and the sun is out now. Spring is coming and lots of trees are budding out in flowers. I might have to bust out my short sleeve shirts for when I shed my jacket in the afternoons. We had a lot of opportunities to teach our investigators and also to get to know them a little better. Gloria taught me how to make sopapillas, and Raul and Ana showed us around their home and kitchen where they make sausages to sell as their source of income. We also had the chance to offer little acts of service to Moises and various hermanas in the ward with different things. The better I get to know and love these people, the more my desires to help them grow.
